All my Trials Lord, Martin Curley

Painting, 3ft x 3ft

The three paintings I have decided to show were all done in July and August 2020. I sometimes have a mad passion to paint and then don’t go near a canvas for a couple of years (or even longer). I have had no lock-down! Easter Monday is the only day I've had off since last Christmas, so the paintings were all done on the weekend.

This painting of Elvis Presley I’ve titled “All My Trials Lord”. This is a line from a song he recorded (many times) called American Trilogy. The full line in the song is; “all my trials Lord, soon be over” and for me sums up Elvis. He died a few years after recording this song, way too young (he was 42). Lots of his fans assumed because he was the King, he was immortal, which gave rise to the “Elvis spotted alive.” stories that appeared in the worlds press for several decades.
