Chenderit School

A long tradition of supporting excellence in the creative arts

Chenderit School is a secondary school which has a strong commitment to supporting the development of the visual arts, as part of a broad and balanced curriculum. In 2002, Chenderit was designated a Visual Arts College within the Government’s Specialist Schools Programme, and the school continues to provide expert tuition in the visual arts today.

Many of the school’s art and design alumni have gone on to have very successful careers in the creative industries, as was highlighted in the ‘Forty Years On’ exhibition held at the school in 2019. What’s more, both Chenderit School and the Friends of the Heseltine Gallery are committed to maintaining the Heseltine Gallery as an inspirational resource for students, staff, parents and the wider community.

The school is renowned for the quality of pupils’ artwork, and the gallery is an important, well-regarded feature.

The school has grown steadily since it was established and has become both popular and successful, now boasting around 1,100 students, including 200 in the sixth form. The catchment area covers Middleton Cheney and neighbouring villages in south Northamptonshire. It also attracts students from the wider area and is usually oversubscribed at the start of each school year.
