The Arm of Jesus by David Snell
Boxwood, NFS
I am submitting three pieces from the body of work I have produced over the lockdown period. Whilst none of them are directly related to the Covid pandemic or lockdown, working on them has certainly helped me keep sane over the last three months!
The first, “The Arm of Jesus”, is a commission for a church in Warwickshire whose crucifix above the pulpit has had an arm missing for some time. The puzzling thing is that no one knows when the left arm came off or what happened to it! The replacement arm, which is only approximately 20cm long, I have carved in boxwood; the shoulder area will have to be carved on site to match the figure in the church, as the crucifix itself is too delicate to transport.
