Drunken Boat by Nick Trench
Acrylic, household paint and wood on canvas
They are from my current 'constructed paintings' project. Although the idea of the paint being 'restricted' by the lengths of wood might feel, to a certain extent, as though they are in 'lockdown' mode, this was a project I began last year and have continued as much as I have been able to through his year.
In each work the wood is fixed first and then the paint is poured on to the canvas. The wood therefore affects where the paint goes even if it sometimes does not touch the wood. The project started out from thinking about the saying 'painting (oneself) into a corner' and therefore how and where paint can flow/be restricted in this way on a surface. That saying was just the starting point, though.
