The theme I chose for my coursework was feminism, focusing on how artists have represented women over the years and how stereotypes, both in the art world and the wider society, have shaped me in my personal life growing up to be a woman. I chose this topic because I want to educate society on the reality of women being represented through art. Throughout my coursework, I have found amazing feminist artists such as Jenny Saville and Betty Tompkins, who have influenced my work and helped spread awareness of the representations of women in art.
My favourite thing about art is the freedom it brings and how every piece of art has a meaning and story behind it, which can be expressed in many ways. Over time it has shown me that for a piece of work to be ‘perfect’ it doesn’t need to be the neatest of works, or the most realistic, but put across the correct meaning that the artist wanted to portray.
After A levels I am going to study fashion branding with communication at university. This will accentuate my love for art and fashion and allow me to express my creativeness to the wider world.
