My project was themed on society’s increasing dependence on digital connections through technology. I developed my journal from an initial study of Vanessa McKeown, Suzanne Saroff and Alex Deforest’s work, highlighting our dependence on food, water and air in relation to our technological demands. By basing my project around these three natural elements, with hints of infused technology, I wanted to show how we are being forced to consume, and rely upon digital connections, much like our need for air, food and water to survive. My objective was to provoke a desire to change from our consumerist ways, where technology has become necessary in all aspects of our lives, allowing our relationship with digital technology to be questioned.
I enjoy discovering and capturing the inner depths within an image, pushing the boundaries and exposing an innovative light upon the overlooked aspects of our day to day lives. I get a feeling of achievement from capturing images that provoke a demand for change, that challenge our preconceptions of society and our own beliefs, values and norms.
I plan to take a year out before starting university, where I will be studying to be a primary school teacher. During my gap year, I would like to continue to follow my passion for photography, capturing images that both inspire, motivate and question.
