SPARK the Art - CHILL
CREATIVITY IS FOR EVERYONE, EVERYONE IS CREATIVE
WHY BOTHER BEING CREATIVE?
We all like staying in our comfort zones, deciding who we are (or someone deciding who we are – a parent, teacher, boss) and staying there, not wanting to rock the boat (yes, fear, is a brilliant gatekeeper). But this is really damaging to your health, particularly your mental health. Not trying out new things leads to stagnation, you are not developing new synapses in the brain, you are not building new knowledge, you are literally not lighting up.
Research has found that ONLY creativity (not intelligence or overall openness) DECREASES mortality risk. These studies found that creating art decreases negative emotions, reduces stress and anxiety and improves medical outcomes. Not only can being creative help you live longer but it can improve the quality of your health and life too.
Yes it’s that dramatic! If doing creative things feels beyond you then just as useful is thinking creatively. So instead of always looking for the “right answer”, a linear, logical approach, develop a creative approach by looking at the situation from different angles. Creativity is thinking around a problem, looking at it from other perspectives, to see it differently come up with a more useful or helpful solution. Studies show that creative people are better able to live with uncertainty because they can adapt their thinking to allow for the flow of the unknown and this will lower stress levels (a major factor of poor health). Thinking creatively is very likely to will help you in all areas of your life and work -from work and relationships, to health (both physical and mental).
Spark the Art
Inside you there is an artist yelling to get out. We know. We can hear it!
Release your inner artist. Take part in ‘Spark the Art’
Each month we will release a theme or a word for you to get creative with.
You can create anything you want based on the theme given using any medium and any materials you want to, just be as creative as you can.
Share it with us on any of our social platforms and we will feature a montage of our favourites on our website the following month.
Don’t be shy, every artist needs a viewer.
With Christmas upon us, the weather getting colder and the growing need for us to relax and enjoy the small things; what better word than…
