Val: “This is a portrait of my husband wearing a facemask. I do understand why we must wear them, but they make me feel even more isolated and fearful. I wanted a stark, dramatic, powerful image to sum up that mood and feeling (I am sure I am not the only one feeling like this). Normally my work is lighter, but this was a good challenge to try something out of my comfort zone. I can’t imagine not painting and am so grateful I can fill my time being creative during this time.”
