Welcome and Farewell by David Snell
Copper, resin, painting muslin with a solid wood base, £750
I am submitting three pieces from the body of work I have produced over the lockdown period. Whilst none of them are directly related to the Covid pandemic or lockdown, working on them has certainly helped me keep sane over the last three months!
The second, “Welcome and Farewell”, is a half-scale maquette for a life-size sculpture intended to stand at the entrance to a school. The young adult is leaving the school holding aloft a key, representing their new found freedom and entry into adulthood. They are handing down the Book of Knowledge to the young entrant who is walking enthusiastically towards the school buildings, taking the book in both hands.
