“Art, whether very subtle or obvious, can make the viewer feel or think about something, confirming, informing or challenging their views. I am intrigued by how artists can present objects in still life paintings in such a way that they can represent aspects of someone’s personality or characteristics. Many artists have been interested in this particular theme because they are able to convey powerful messages about someone and their characteristics whilst creating elegant still life pieces. I find it fascinating that the images work on two distinct levels, both as a faithful representation of reality and as a more subtle suggestion of a hidden story. Within my work I have explored this idea further, and have begun to discover how artists across the ages have met this challenge. I hope my work will be regarded by the viewer as both realistic and eye catching, but will also be representative of something, whether this be a person or concept.”
