Chris: “This pandemic has been such a long haul. Like so many people, my mood has dipped and revived, repeatedly, over the months. In mid-February, this was my attempt at lifting my spirits with an artistic challenge: what kind of self-portrait could I create in four hours, just like those participants in the wonderful Sky Arts portrait contest? Brush marks and hectic colours aim to reflect the fraught frustration of 'hanging on in there', waiting to be eligible for the vaccine. The satirical, saintly upward glance is me seeking inspiration and hope.”
