Keeley: “Portraits are a subject I tend to avoid as I've always felt less confident with creating an exact likeness. I struggled with the concept of the portrait, believing it had to be realistic for it to work. I did some sketchbook work, looking at Picasso, Chuck Close, Warhol and 1970's punk art. I pieced together some collage in paper first, then I trialled a few textile samples inspired by the artists. I did this self-portrait as a lockdown challenge. It was nice to have the time and energy to express myself.”
