‘Radiance' - Letitia Wright by Esther Ross

Esther: “I wanted to capture Letitia's mixture of delicacy and strength in this painting, knowing she has had her own mental health struggles. So I abandoned the paintbrush and instead made this painting with mixed media; predominantly acrylic inks rubbed on with a cloth, textured with varnish, and cling film. I took the lighter highlights off with methylated spirits on cloth. This technique echoed the sense of delicacy I wanted to portray in the skin, and soul by taking layers gently away. She radiates such a peace of mind and inner strength alongside vulnerability that it moved me to paint her.”
